8 Tracks – Solomun

Music

Mr Diynamic,Solomun,’s success story over the last few years has been quick and great. He’s gone from underground producer to holding down an Ibiza weekly residency at Sankey’s Ibiza every Tuesday night. Here he furnishes us with his 8 tracks of influences… enjoy.

Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance

Neneh Cherry had been a revelation for every young man at that time. And also for me. The album was running in repeat for about one year. A great artist, and a great woman too. And of course later also 7 seconds was full of emotions.

  • Hijack - Daddy Rich

I heard that sound when I was like 17/18 years old. I heard a lot of US Hip Hop during that time: NWA, Tribe Called Quest, Big Daddy Kane and that stuff. A few guys from my hood did music by themselves and were more attracted by this Brixton UK-Hip Hop sound, like Hijack, Gunshot or Killa Instinct. And because of those guys I came in touch with UK Hip Hop, big time! This track here is one of the slowest tracks of the album, a song about a drug lord in a huge white limousine who destroys the lives of the people. He gets you high when you fall to the ground, then you find: What goes up must come down.

  • Elvis - Suspicious Minds

No influence and inspiration list without Elvis. I really love that track since a long time, maybe because the lyrics could also easily be from a Balkan folk song. And I grew up with the traditional Balkan music my parents heard. In these lyrics they are always dealing with big emotions, broken hearts, lost loves, live and death and all of that. Basically like here:We’re caught in a trap, I can’t walk out because I love you too much baby …Oh let our love survive, or dry the tears from your eyes. Lets don’t let a good thing die … No doubt: Elvis is King!

  • Mantronix - Scream

Back in the days this track was from one of the greatest and freshest albums ever, a mixture between House, Electronic and Hip Hop. And those guys had been really busy: they released 5 albums between 1985 and 1991. The big breakthrough came with their album This should move ya with their huge hit Got to have your love and then one album later they split. This was a shame.

  • The Game, 50 Cent - Hate It Or Love It

I just rediscovered that track a few weeks ago and I really like that one. Obviously so much that I dared to play it as the final track at Pacha Ibiza, at 7.30 am. And the good news is: Nobody was lynching me, on the contrary: there was massive booty shaking going on the dancefloor.

  • Blade - Vampire Dance Club Theme

Ive been to cinema with a few friends and I didnt know that this one was a vampire film. So I was sitting there and suddenly there was blood raining from the showers. I am very sure without this strong pictures I would never remember this track, the whole scene impressed me that much that I thought this sound must be like future Techno. Anyway, its quite a good proof for the fact that pictures and sound can be very strong together, and in a way also a plea for music videos.

  • Isolee - Beau Mot Plage (original)

For me one of the really classical, timeless tracks that truly deserves to be called a masterpiece. And this has nothing to do with the fact that Rajko is a really nice person who lives in my hometown Hamburg.

  • Yoko Duo - Close These Curtains (stimming Remix)

I think I dont have to talk about my close relation to Mr. Martin Stimming anymore. And even though I rediscovered a little more my techy side in the last months this track for me definitely belongs to the tracks of the year 2013.And I managed it to play this track 4 times in only one night: 2 times at Pacha Ibiza and 2 times at the direct after party. There is so much love and emotion in this tune that I get goose bumps every time I hear it.
