Geena: The ‘Wednesday Alternative’ Mix

Music

Earlier this year marked the announcement of a newly launched record label from the Paris based maestro Geena, a producer whom has amassed a reputation for his intriguing, ethereal take on house and club music.

Antinote, the record label run by Zaltan, has largely been responsible for helping his career to date having released five of his EP's since 2013, many of which have been widley supported and heavily played.

Now as he approaches a new chapter in his career we have invited him to contribute to our mix series, it's long overdue. The first release forthcoming on Worldwide Zen is a self release under his own name of Nicolas Molina.

Listen and read the interview below…

Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Nicolas from Paris, with spanish and pictave origins. My mum calls me "mon chat" (my cat) so it's maybe the better "what am i" answer.

What does your music sound like?

A friend of mine told me there is always some goofy gimmicks within my tracks so goofy and moody house jams is a good thing. But i've created my own label to change the mood of my music to suit my state of mind, expect more diverse sound in the future

Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

at home, in my bed

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

in the sub

What should we be wearing?

headphones and soccer jersey

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

a waterproof cushion, 2 turntables, a wide jacuzzi, some floating friends

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Sentiments – Purple days

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Too hard to chose guys 🙂

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Paul Johnson in the golden era of his creative carreer, 'cause take a look to few pictures/videos of him playing cuts…no words needed it's like a storm of mixed feelings between bad boy raw tension and deep / homosexual vibes

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

laptop + traktor, today, i've turntables i don't use at home

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

the track you'll play next

What were the first and last records you bought?

The first one was something refering to the grunge rock scene, the last one is a batch of warehouse finds coming from DDD store in Paris i have no memory about the name, sorry

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A focaccia

If it was an animal what would it be?

a Baby Beluga

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

That 7" piece of belgium newbeat reworks of "La danse des canards" (French Muzak)

Upcoming in the world of…

My next record which is the 1st release on my own label, Worldwide Zen I'm attending international market label in bruxelles, early april, alongside french labels i'm very into (gravats, prr prr, supergenius)
