Josh Caffe – The ‘Friday Feeling’ Ransom Note Mix

Music

As the weekend rolls around yet again, though it seems like far too long since the last one, we need something to get us in the mood for that essential part of the week. Fortunately, Josh Caffe is on hand to provide us with 75 minutes worth of mixing delights that'll get you right in the mood to paint the town whatever colour you like. Having just released Give It To Me, an EP alongside PJU and Robert Owens, we asked Josh to give it to us on both the mix and word front. So tune in to his sounds and read his words as you give yourself that good old-fashioned Friday Feeling;

Please introduce yourself…
Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Josh Caffe, at home in North London. I’m a vocalist, DJ and producer.

Describe your sound without using the letter 'e'.

‘Avin it.

What was the first electronic record you heard and how did it make you feel?

Neon Judgement, Fashion Party. Just made me want to go out dance (and take an E).

What one piece of software or hardware could you not make music without?

Ableton.

What’s your shoe size?

11. And you? 😉 (A measley 8 – Large Boy)

Do you read books still? If so what?

Not really. A certain someone would say I need to more though (you know who you are).

What would be your ideal date?

I’m quite old fashioned so dinner, drinks post spliff and a laugh.

What’s the greatest live performance you’ve ever seen?

Jocelyn Brown for Paradise Garage at Ministry of Sound last December.

Who’s the best DJ in the world?

Oh that’s a tuff one, too many great DJs to single out just one.

What do you think the future holds for music if people are no longer willing to pay for it?

We’re fucked.

You just had a fight with the person you are closest to. Do you not speak to them until they apologise…or do you apologise first?

Most of the time I apologise first. No need to wallow in anger right?

If you were trapped on a desert island with one other person, who would you choose? How long would it be before you eat them?

Grace Jones. We’d have such a laugh and then fight about something really stupid like a coconut so then I’d have to eat her after 3 days. I’d want to get as much goss out of her before though.

Your doctor says you need more exercise….what do you take up for exercise?

Lifting up pints of beer?

If you could travel in time…where in time would you go? Why?

New York in the '80s. So much happened during that period that gave birth to some of my music inspirations as well being a creative diverse city to be from and part of.

How does your brain work when making music? How does it work when you aren’t?

Pretty hectic to be honest, I was always get flooded with ideas and want to try things instantly. When I’m not it’s probably the same!

Onto the mix…
Where was the mix recorded?

On a desert Island with Grace Jones.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Either getting ready to go out with a bottle of Grey Goose or coming back home later with a bottle of Blossom Hill.

What should we be wearing?

Anything you want honey! I’m wearing a fur coat.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Probably a white room with just 2 cdj’s and a recorder! Anything else just distracts me.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Spokesman – Acid Creak (Pierre’s Reconstruction Mix).

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Walter Gibbons. What a man and inspiration.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

I’d say the track you end on. You can be pretty out there with it.

What were the first and last records you bought?

I think first was probably Janet Jackson's Control, last record was Take My Love by Prestige feat. Brandi

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Pringles.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A gorilla.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Murat Tepeli & Prosumer’s Work it always gets me. Annoying because I love it and always want to play it!

Upcoming in the world of Josh Caffe?

Launching my new band, Nostalgia of Mothership, releasing my album Black Magik Dawn and music with Name The Pet, Out of Eden, Scoper & Bubba and Alinka to name a few. Roll on 2016!

Anything else we need to discuss?

Princess Margaret.
