Video Premiere: Lapalace – new age night

Manchester-based producer Lily Mumby, the creative force behind Lapalace, has chosen Lavender as her botanical muse for this sixth instalment of Music To Watch Seeds Grow By…
There once was a Lapalace quite rare, Who crafted her sounds with such care,
In Manchester’s mist, As synths gently kissed, The “new age night” floating through air!
Miss Mumby, whose grandmother’s plot, Grew lavender stems quite a lot,
Her machines she would tend, As notes would transcend, Like seeds in a garden they’d sprout!
The bees would go buzz-ily round, While Lapalace created her sound,
With loops that decay, In Basinski’s way, Where rhythms hypnotically pound!
Oh wonderful, musical sprite! Your melodies shine purple-bright!
With dew-covered tones From grandmother’s zones, You’ve conjured a “new age night!”
Like the aromatic herb that grows from tiny seeds to fragrant purple stalks, her compositions unfold with a similar patience and elegance. Lily’s synthesisers breathe with a natural rhythm, creating textures that emerge and recede like morning dew on lavender buds waiting to bloom.
We’re premiering the video for the standout track ‘new age night’ – a stunning love child of William Basinski’s decaying tape loops and Aphex Twin’s intricate programming – carries subtle lavender-inspired tones, balancing the plant’s calming essence with hypnotic rhythms. Just as lavender requires thoughtful tending before rewarding the gardener with its distinctive aroma, Lapalace’s landscapes reveal deeper complexities with each listen.
“This video is made up of DV footage from my hometown. i found the footage when i was getting this release ready and
it captures a mood that i think goes perfectly well with the song. i used to sit and just watch the sunset when i was younger, chasing this feeling i’ve never been able to define. for me, this video captures that energy best.
i wanted to take a similar approach to the music and incorporate looping and slowing things down in unusual ways.
i put together the album with sort of a day cycle in mind and new age night being the dusky – nocturnal section – the video matching that.”
