German-Nigerian artist Retromigration unveils their debut full-length album, ‘Change’ out as part of the Data Planet cassette series.

There once was a fellow called Malik so keen, Who made Retromigration the finest they’d seen,
With B equals E squared upon Chrome International, He mixed up some rhythms quite sensational!

He collaborated with Yazzus so bright, And Ngoni Egan through day and through night,
While Passion Deez spun in a teal cassette case, As they jungle-danced all over the place!

“Oh Ebi!” cried Malik, “and Rum with some Lime!”  “Let’s footwork and soul-funk in four-quarter time!”
They cut and they pasted with childhood delight, Till their afro-futuristic groove took its flight.

This release signals a fresh direction for Malik, expanding beyond his signature house sound to explore footwork, jungle, African and Caribbean rhythms, as well as jazz, soul, and hip-hop influences.

‘Change’ features collaborations with afro-techno producer Yazzus, Irish electro innovator Ngoni Egan, and Zimbabwean DJ Passion Deez. Drawing inspiration from Malik’s Nigerian and Ghanaian heritage, the album  celebrates the impact of Black artists on electronic music, themes of family, nostalgia, and cultural identity.
