Premiere: Breaka – The Startup
The phone had been ringing off the hook all morning, each time he chose to ignore it. He’d debated unplugging it at the mains but the repercussions would be even worse than they already were. He knew that not answering wouldn’t help him in the long run, but right now he couldn’t face it. He would continue to live by the notion that what he didn’t know couldn’t hurt him.
Manchester party Off Beat make their first steps into the label world, launching a new platform to share their love of UK bass culture. For the inaugural outing, they’ve enlisted the talents of Breaka who’s previous releases for Desert Sound Colony’s Holding Hands, his own Breaka Recordings and Leeds’ Stretchy Dance Supply have caused quite a stir since 2018. Titled The Startup, the two-tracker moves from UK bass grooves and warm subs on the A Side to jungle-inspired breaks on the flip; a perfect indicator of what we can expect from the newly-founded imprint in future.
