Stacey Pullen – Influences

The smooth chords and the bassline are the perfect setting for a late night feel-good track. This track takes me back to my college days when we use to lug all of our records, lights sound system in the car to get to the club just so we could play this song.

I remember watching soul train when I was about 8-9 yrs old and this was the last song on the program. It was a serious song about the Vietnam war. Berry Gordy didn’t want this to be released on Motown but it turned out to be a major hit.

This song reminds me of growing up as a kid, my dad and aunt use to love listening to this when the family was together. It talks about our world that we live in and all of the good that’s in it. It make you think about life and death being a reality.

Probably the first techno record I ever heard. It blew my mind and all I could think of when I heard this were the old Texas Instrument games and computers. I also used to pop & lock dance in my schools talent show to this track.

Believe it or not, this is one of the tracks that I learned how to mix to, but is was more of a listening track because Man Parrish had a different element to their brand of hip hip. It was techno & hip hop all in one.

Me and a few friends were in my living room checking this tune and I can still remember the goose bumps. Pure Detroit futuristic techno. I knew this music was special and not every one could relate and I actually had a chip on my shoulder because this track made me feel like I was the shit, for reasons I still don’t know why till this day.

The Electrifying Mojo used to play this on his radio show back in the 80s. This was a new wave punk rock sounding techno track. Raw to the bone.

I still listen to this track and it makes me feel sexy – her vocals, her delivery about what she’s feeling at that moment. All you can do is think of a hot chick dancing in front of you when you hear this.
