Playlist: Music To Cut Hair To with Bushwacka

Music

A trip to About This Place hair studios is rarely just purely functional.. Hairdressers can often end up being confidante’s. It’s all about the setting too, so is there more annoying than bad music? it’s unacceptable. Bad music is only an interruption of what we believe the salon atmosphere should be. This why ‘Music to cut hair to’ was created.

Here at the ATP Studios, headed by the Hair Mistress aka Victoria Saunders has perfected that blend. She cuts the hair of half the DJs in London and many of the people in the background of this wonderful industry. The reason they keep coming back, aside from a damn fine cut, is the fact the music is spot on – hence being asked by R$N to compile a feature for them.

Music To Cut Hair To, a selection of some great music played in the salon alongside some appearances from friends…

“My special guest this month is non other than Matthew Benjamin aka Bushwhacka.

Our friendship has gone through many chapters, from doing the back stroke in a tent in Glastonbury to Love Story, dancing on seats in The Pelican to chewing the fat on steps, both in Portobello. Tbh if I re counted the many memories associated with Mr Bushwhacka I’d be deemed a show off as the list is HUGE.

I asked Matthew to compile a playlist for me as I have been watching him nearly every week since the start of Lockdown on Facebook Live.  His music selection has touched many memories dear to me and it’s been sublime.

His positivity in the face of adversity in these crazy times has lifted my spirit and therefore he was a natural choice.

He has pulled together a selection that is perfect not only for my studios but for your homes to, after all that’s where we all seem to be at present.

His new business that is about to launch in November, Listen Up Therapy, has pulled together his retraining as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, meditation and his insider knowledge of the creative industries.

Matthew I salute you. A huge thank you for doing this for me. Love always.x

I’d like to dedicate this column to Jose Padilla, RIP. Spirit of Ibiza forever.”
