Philipp Gorbachev – Influences

Music

Philipp Gorbachev is a man that knows exactly what he wants – not entirely unlike his political namesake. However, instead of getting involved in minor excursions such as politics this particular Mr Gorbachev is much more concerned with the more important things in life.

Stone cold DOOF.

He's just released the debut offering on his brand new shiny label PG Tune entitled Power Of The Funk. Give his sounds a saucy spin here

For this batch of influences he's provided us with a selection of tracks that help clear his head and bring a beaming smile to his face.

Or, in his own words;

"This is a DE-CONFUSING List, with all the good stuff I am loving and that does not leave me confused at all!"

Power Of The Funk is out now on PG Tune.

Ink Spots - If I Didn't Care

The future of music is nothing without love! Drop off the technology, this is core information. Once in Berlin with Matias Aguayo, we were like ‘Wowsers!’ How amazing these songs sound today!? I really like it when a deeper voice comes in after Bill Kenny. Thank you, Bill Kenny!

  • Ginger Baker Drum Clinic 1968

I would like to thank Ginger Baker for being true to drumming and keeping it real through life. And thank you, Ginger Baker, for sharing drum lessons and interesting interviews, they really help!

  • Jah Batta - Out A Reach

Cherishing for my soul. In the District I have it on vinyl. This is one of the things, that inspired me to form Philipp Gorbachev & The Naked Man. The cover artwork of this record has been a strong influence for what you see on the “Silver Album” LP sleeve.

  • Derrick May @ Kappa Futur Festival 2014 // Day 2 // 06-07-2014

Some associate techno with drugs and aliens but for me this is music performance and celebration of the music spirit, and thanks Derrick May for showing how it is done nowadays. I am not a DJ but for me this approach of DJing is an inspiration of my solo show.

  • Bootsy's Basic Funk Formula

It is very basic and simple and it is exciting how much one can build on top of this!

  • Paul Leary - How Much Longer

One of the greatest guitar players and a crazy good producer (who started to work with the cheapest and most simple equipment back in the day out of a necessity!). I am still shocked by the fact that we actually worked together on my Silver Album. It is a miracle. Working with Paul also encouraged me to mix music for PG TUNE by myself…

  • Green Velvet & Weiss - Forbidden Fruit (Original Mix)

Green Velvet, nailing it on so many levels! And I know why – Love is the message!

  • [Hd] Vladimir Horowitz - The Last Romantic

What to say? A great performer!

  • Philipp Gorbachev Live @ Manufaktura By Arma 17, Moscow, 11 Am

This is a shout out to ARMA17 and OUTLINE Festival, to the vibrant people who are working on a building for a new spirit industry music venue in Moscow! It feels like a real honour to be part of it! The dancefloor at two of my latest shows there influenced a lot of new music!
