Over The Counter #8: Kristina Records – December ’15

Music

November has been an action packed month here at Kristina Records; parties, instores, sales and big new releases keeping us busy in the lead up to Christmas and New Year’s.

After a lengthy hiatus, our party series Dream States finally returned, christening our new home at the incredible new The Pickle Factory facility in East London. Impressive sound and production was met with equally immense sets from S. Moreira, Laurine and Cecilio for the Slow Life showcase. The perfect relaunch for an exciting return to the club for Kristina Records, stay tuned as news of our next party is imminent, and big!

Slow Life celebrations must have worked over the weekend as early this week we welcomed Slow Life 004, finally dropping after pressing delays led to us leapfrogging to 005. The wait is over and it was worth it, Interphase Issues EP from S. Moreira and Saverio Celestri is sounding superb. Stunning, emotive techno, soft pads counter soaring analog synth squeak, intricate drums hit in all the right places. Another excellent release for the Slow Life collective.

After a five year hiatus we welcome LiveJam Records back with a new release. Long time fans of their work as Relative and Warm Sounds, EMG and John Swing are back, keeping it in the family once again with themselves and regular contributors Ace and Invisible Men providing a track each. Red raw samplefilled house that will get even the most stagnant floor moving. Also back after some brief silence was Levon Vincent, NS10 both regular black and limited pink pressing that both flew from the shelves. Unfortunately his proceeding controversial Facebook post hasn’t been forgotten quite as quickly for him.

Our friends at Kapvt Mvndi delivered their latest EP, the Blackwater subsidiary delivering a quality singlesided slab of dubby, percussive cuts fresh from Italy and here at Kristina Records first! Exciting new Berlinbased ‘Initial’ label joined our roster. Initial 001 and 002 both comprising Various Artists, from debuts by littleknown German producers to the legendary Claude Young also providing the heat. Fierce, unforgiving Berghainesque techno, haunting beatless trips and no holds barred acid rave, both releases filled with diversity, limited and enclosed in silkscreened sleeves by artist Franck Itow.

Fred P paid us a visit, bearing gifts in the form of his latest LP 'Modern Architect Compiled Works Of Fred P', released on Fred's new offshoot label Energy Of Sound. Expertly crafted hypnotic deep house/techno workouts, all killer no filler. Lots of other friendly faces stopping by this month, old friends Beautiful Swimmers, Funkineven and Andrew Weatherall came in for his regular restock, Parisien legend Busy P even fit a weekly Kristina shop in to coincide with his NTS Radio residency.

Second hand stock is hitting the shelves faster than ever. Daily additions include everything from obscure jazz, disco 12’s, electro funk, krautrock, Chicago house and sort after modern dance. Unavailable on our website however occasionally added to our Discogs page, keep an eye on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages for regular staff picks and feel free to contact us to secure any items.
