Over The Counter #11: Kristina Records – March ’16
This series asks some of our favourite shops from around the world to tell us about the records which are doing it for them right now. This week we welcome back Nick and Jason from Kristina Records in Dalston.
After a brief hiatus as things slowed over the holiday period, 2016 has already seen an onslaught of new releases, party announcements and upcoming news.
January saw our second Dream States after it was relaunched last year with the Slow Life crew christening the new home at The Pickle Factory. This time around we looked to the US, with NYC's Bunker resident Mike Servito and Detroit techno and house provider Fit Siegel joining our resident Jason Spinks for another party in to the early hours. Stay tuned for details of our next guests!
The Berlin-based Slow Life label has gone from strength-to-strength, led by S.Moreira the self-proclaimed 'Hispano-Italian project' provides stunningly produced Detroit influenced house and techno, a melting pot of nationalities and cultures who's output continues to be of the utmost quality. After five successful releases and a sixth on the way, it was time to revisit the early days as we welcomed Slow Life 001, label-honcho S.Moreira's 'Fuck The Clock'. A limited repress to counter the skyrocketing discogs prices, these are flying out the door so do hurry. SL002 'We All Are Fra!' will be following in the next few days!
A few new release highlights this week, including an extremely impressive 12" from the Superconscious camp. Their fifth release sees the ever evolving András (Andras Fox/A.r.t Wilson) in club mode, from beachside break house to the 138bpm 'Always Pumping', diverse and beautifully produced, encapsulating Andy's ability to cover all manners of house whilst maintaining his signature stripped-back style.
After Kai Alce christened the label last year, People Of Earth are back with another Detroit legend in Reggie Dokes, 'Afro Sci / Piano Seduction' showcases his signature deep house sounds from the D. Moving to Chicago and we have two official reissues from the seminal Dance Mania imprint, classics from the label from heavyweights Parris Mitchell and Paul Johnson.
Plenty of rare second hand pieces gracing our walls and racks, be sure to stop by! PS Did we say we do 10% NUS discount Mon-Weds?
