A versatile French producer picks a selection of music which he loves and makes him appreciate love.

E-Unity could be described as a ‘nu skool’ Parisian producer but in all honesty his sound is rooted in something else entirely. A fresh faced wave of musicians have been emerging from the French capital channeling influences rooted in UK Bass music culture, Grime, Pop, Jungle and the spaces in between.

This month marked the release of a new album from the talented musician who has released a steady stream of leftfield electronic records on the likes of Oscilla Sound, From The Depths and Intramuros.

In 2020 he first released material via Simo Cell’s record label TemeT to which he has just returned.

His new release is a mini album made up of tracks which are as dreamy and melodic as they are rough and club driven. It is a record described by the label as follows:

“In an uncertain world, E-Unity takes the opposite approach to a lot of contemporary electronic music which is always faster, harder and somehow dystopian. Instead he offers a record filled with sensibility, love and positivity, fighting the evil forces with heart emojis and sub-reinforced sonic weapons.”

We invited E-Unity to share some of that love with us as he picks music upon the theme.

The Mama’s and The Papa’s - Dedicated To the One I Love

“This one is more than a classic but I rediscovered it during a hippy phase I had during the pandemic and it’s such a beautiful song. I love the way the energy fades in and out between the verses and the chorus and vice versa.”

  • The Mama’s and The Papa’s - Dedicated To the One I Love

“This one is more than a classic but I rediscovered it during a hippy phase I had during the pandemic and it’s such a beautiful song. I love the way the energy fades in and out between the verses and the chorus and vice versa.”

  • Blue Gas - Shadow's from Nowhere

“It’s a special song that we often listen to with a special person in my life. And now that I’m looking at the lyrics I just realized how sad it actually is. Thanks the Ransom Note for ruining it!”

  • Weyes Blood - Grapevine

    « Emotional cowboy »

  • Kelela - On the Run

“Love Kelela’s new album but this is the one for me. Ethereal R&B at its best.”

  • Lala &ce - Control

“Lala is making the sexiest music you can hear right now and her album from last year is such a gem. I hesitated between this one and « Freaky all night » which features Le Diouck’s horniest verse in history. Sex songs count as love songs don’t they?”

  • Maydie Myles - Keep On Luvin (Disco Style Mix)

“I got married last summer and my friend Clad played this tune at some point during the night and it really felt like life peak time. Keep on luvin’ everyone!”

  • Chez Damier - I Never Knew Love (Made in Detroit Mix)

“That’s another tune I wanted to play at the wedding but I got too drunk and forgot about it which makes it bittersweet to me now. Even more romantic then, right?”

  • Burial - New Love

“I admit I’m cheating here. I love Burial so much that even if I had made a « favorite country tunes » list I would have found a way to include one of his tunes in it. But anyway, every Burial tune is a love song somehow, there’s the sadness of every break ups of the world in them and so much more.”
