Insomnia Music with Hydergine

Music

Originating from the deepest South of Italy, Hydergine may be a familiar name to some of you but there’s every likelihood that he hasn’t yet crossed your radar. A master of all things deep, pensive and thoughtful he has been perfecting his craft across many years and has worked tirelessly crafting dub infused house and techno for almost a decade. As a founder of the Ranges label he has channeled the ethereal, moody spirit of the underground in true style.

The records are often subtle, long form experiences within which the listener is required to pay attention to the intricate details that help make up a special mood and tone. This isn’t strictly club focussed music. It is as much in the behavioural patterns and the soundtrack to our everyday experiences that Hydergine draws upon as his inspiration.

He has most recently released a 2 x 12″ EP for his own label, a true showcase of his musical identity. As such we asked him to contribute to one of our playlist feature series. He opted for the sounds of insomnia…

Bandulu - Contingency

This is one iconic track from 1996. Melancholic and energetic at the same time. I recall listening and playing this track many times, as well as many others from Bandulu. However, I think that this track is perfect for lucid dreaming.

  • Fluxion - Formation

Dub vibes that infuse vivid imaginary thoughts. Fluxion made a great contribution here. The new album is modern dub at its best: smooth, with a creative blend of unusual elements, and with sophisticated atmospheres. Fresh, addictive, and mind altering.

  • Matrix - Red Film #2

One classic track from 1999 that will never be forgotten. A fast-forward timeless cinematic experience that entails exquisite reminiscent vibes. It is still able to convey the sensations of the early days. One for sleepless nights with high heart rate.

  • Acronym - The Sixth Mass Extinction

A great lunar excursion experience from Acronym. I must say it is difficult to create something effective that does not feel derivative in this genre. This track is a wonderful cosmic trip with lush pads and delayed low-end space debris.

  • Luke Hess – Depths

Timeless work from Luke Hess. An absolutely stunning deep techno track with dark, edgy and classy aesthetics. I can imagine this track played in a warehouse in the middle of the night. Emotional, intense, and with a Detroit vibe. Pure insomnia!
