Influences: Javiera González & Tobias Freund

This was one of the tracks i just played over and over ….dancing , it gave me this amazing push … everything Prince did with his songs turned me on, and was super influential for me. I love the bright sax at the beginning of this track. – Javier

This band was so important for me, this song makes me sing loud, it evokes in me feelings of female kinship….. the incredible bass, the lyrics, and Beth’s voice, makes this track (and Dummy) one of my favourites.. – Javier

I discovered this after a period of listening to Minor Threat, and I learned even more about the genre. This is one of that songs that uses hardcore tropes like “fight for what you wanna be” etc … which is constructive, as opposed to just being negative ….I love the sound that this band has on their albums. – Javier

One of the many versions of this song that exist … I’m just so into the lyrics…..she is a very special singer for me… i am very influenced by her and her unique voice…Billie is all courage and was one of the first singers that dared to talk about the institutional racism, that was (is) happening in U.S.A. – Javier

My dad used to put this record on a lot , and I love to imagine all the events that must have influenced these songs, the first song … “from the air” really made me realise that theatre, visual arts and music are all extensions of the same things…i always go to her music to elevate my spirit. – Javier

I’ve always wondered what the lyrics in this song are about—I never really found out but it taught me that lyrics don’t necessarily have to have an obvious meaning, as the music itself just has to convey a certain feeling. – Tobias

It’s hard to pick just one song as a favourite from this record, but i chose the last one as it brings the journey to a close. No other record from Tuxedomoon ever meant as much to me, especially this last song with its simple but genius bass line, the ambience and the field recordings. This is the kind of song I wish I had produced. I bought this 7” inch soon after it came out, in the beginning of the 80’s. I always preferred the more rhythmic and sequenced tracks to the noisy songs from TG. Just recently, whilst reading Cosey Fanni Tutti’s autobiography, I got into them all over again. – Tobias

I think I own every record from Wire (if I’m not wrong). This song is the opening track to the 154 album. It’s the first time that I heard synths in punk music. The production in this song was something that I had never experienced before. All the tracks on album sound so deep and layered, while at the same time being so simple and light. – Tobias

I was thinking that I couldn’t only name songs from one era, but it is hard to think of a modern artist that has really impressed me. Arca is definitely someone who has a fresh and strong new appeal, producing progressive, futuristic music. I met him once at a festival we were both playing at, not knowing who he was or what he did, and he was just this humble, nice guy. Then I saw his astonishing performance and I thought, yes, there are still some heroes around. – Tobias
