Influences: Die Wilde Jagd

Music

In 2006 a chance meeting in Düsseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs led to the formation of Die Wilde Jagd, a two piece band which dabble in the realms of synthpop, krautrock, electronica and beyond. Beck & Philipp incorporate blends of mesmerizing guitar riffs alongside synths, drums, percussion and everything in between to create lucious soundscapes. Their debut self titled album was released in May last year and this week will see them take to London's Waiting Room for a special live performance. Here are their influences.

Peter Nicolai Arbo - Asgardsreien

Our band name is a reference to Peter Nicolai Arbo’s painting “Asgardsreien”, which depicts the “Wild Hunt”, a phenomenon described in European mythology about a ghostly group of hunters and valkyries riding across the sky during the so called “Rauhnächte” or “rough nights” around christmas time.

  • Lautreamont - The Songs Of Maldoror

Lyrical references to Lautreamont’s masterpiece “The Songs of Maldoror” are all over our album. Best to read it in french if you can, or simply listen to this 9 hour audio book version.

  • The Intruder (L'Intrus)

One of the best films of the past 20 years. A fierce and hypnotic journey about a man in search of a heart, based on an essay by Jean-Luc Nancy. Features a brilliant soundtrack by Tindersticks. I love to get lost in this film.

  • Franz Liszt - Wilde Jagd (Vadym Kholodenko)

We’re very honoured to have inspried Franz Liszt to name this great piece of his after our band.

  • Daf - Der Räuber Und Der Prinz

A great song with a beautiful fairy tale vibe from one of the best bands from Düsseldorf. We were called “Der Räuber und der Prinz” for a while until we started releasing music as “Die Wilde Jagd” in 2015

  • Arp 2600

The Arp 2600 is one of our favourite synthesizers and was used on several tracks on our album. It can do everything – from deep bass lines to squeeky sound effects and whatever you do on it, it always sounds great. Star Wars fans will also know that this synth was used to create the voice of R2 D2.

  • Michael Bundt - The Brain Of Oskar Panizza

I first heard this in a bar in London around 2005 and it has since become one of my favourite tracks of all time. I love the sound of the drums, the Live electronic vibe, the strange little breaks. To me this is a perfect composition and production.
