Influences: Cardopusher

Music

Cardopusher has done a great job with his Influences piece – rather than give us a list of records that everyone knows, the Hyperdub/ Boys Noize/ Tigerbeat 6 producer has dug deep and come up with some serious basement bangers. This means we've been hit up with a list covering the intricate breakbeat mayhem of Venetian Snares, Altern-8's nutty rave explosions, and – unsurprisngly considering Cardopusher's love of a dirty 303 – some prime acid bubblers from the mind of Luke Vibert. He's also, we think, the first producer to have given us a Reggaeton banger in an influences piece. Good work sir.

You'll be able to hear the sum total of all these influences when Cardopusher plays at the next I Love Acid – taking place at Bloc's venue in Hackney Wick on Feb 5th. As ever Posthuman are on the bill, alongside Perseus Traxx, B12,and Placid. Tickets and such available over here.

Soundmurderer & Sk1 - Fathom

The best jungle track for me. No one does amen breaks manipulations than these two guys. My obsession for hyper edited drums came just after listening to this.

  • Soundmurderer & Sk1 - Fathom

The best jungle track for me. No one does amen breaks manipulations than these two guys. My obsession for hyper edited drums came just after listening to this.

  • Edmx Cerberus

One of the strongest tracks ever made based basically around a hardcore kick drum, simple and efective.

  • 808 State - Flow Coma

A Classic. Full of rave spirit. Killer 303 lines and 808 drums. By the time i discovered i was more into IDM stuff but this one made me get into the house territory.

  • Altern 8 - Frequency (1991)

One of my favourite tracks from all the time. Full of breakbeats, rave stabs and 90s euphoria. What else can i ask?

  • Venetian Snares - Hand Throw

Venetian Snares was one of the first artist sthat got me into breakcore. When i heard this track for the first time i was impressed in how fast the drums worked perfectly with the Burro Banton vocals like if they were made for each other.

  • Hate - Pretty Boys Dont Survive Up North

Released on Modern Love´s affiliated HATE label. There is no information about the artists or tracks released on this label but the hoovers, amens and dreamy pads programming are my kind of stuff. The world needs more music like this.

  • El General - Te Ves Buena

A classic tune made in the early 90s by one of the reggaeton originators. Because of him i got into the dembow sound. I was super young when this came out but to this day sounds special to me.

  • Luke Vibert - Yoseph

Another classic track with the Luke Vibert stamped sound released in one of my favourite labels by that time. No one does 303 lines like him.

  • Universal Indicator - Innovation In The Dynamics Of Acid

This is the perfect definition of “Innovation in the Dynamic of Acid” made with classic Roland gear. Sounding fresh almost 15 years after it was composed. Dark stuff and heavy basslines in a raw way.
