Influences: Autarkic

Music

There has been a bubbling sense of anticipation and interest around the Tel Aviv based producer and live act Autarkic. He has crafted a singular sound which blends middle eastern influences alongside elements of krautrock, post punk, house and electronic music all in one very tight knit package. As a result he has been granted access to travel far and wide bringing with him a sound which is very much his own yet continues to ignite dancefloors in an innovative new light. Whilst he largely plays live he has recently entered the realm as a disc jockey and with him brings a spectacular insight into the inspiration which has helped form his own taste and sound within music.

He will play at Renate on the 24th of March in Berlin as the Lithuanian club night Opium takes over the space with a fine showcase of talent including Kris Baha, Christopher Rau and more.

Life According To Agfa

The movie by Assi Dayan describes the fragile Israeli society in a non typical, revealing fashion. Army machoism, racism in terms the whites, the blacks, the arabs and other grotesquely stereotypical characters with personal disorders which mirror the country’s disorders. That tough and beautifull movie influenced me a lot and gave me a will to try and bring a hidden message to my work. I sampled a dialogue from the movie in my track “watch out”.

  • Adrian Sherwood's Sound Perception

I started really listening to his work only this past year, but it changed the way I think about sound completely, from being afraid of not mixing in the “right” way I understood that everything can be right. Flooding a kick and a bass line with echo to strange ways to make a stereo image, every track he mixed was done in a beautifully brutal way.

  • Flight Cases, Bags, Covers And Other Gear Dedicated Storage...

I have a fetish for those items, and I have a good excuse! As I am mainly a live artist, I travel with a lot of expensive gear and I will do whatever it takes to protect them!

  • Performing

One of the things I hate the most doing, except when i’m actually doing it. After a good gig I feel relaxed and happy. After a bad/ok gig I feel motivated to change it and make the next one better and I will put a lot of effort at the studio to make new and better tracks.

  • A Spiritual Warrior ( Alejandro Jodorowski's Idea Of..)

When A.J aimed to make the movie “Dune” (and failed) he chose his crew with a specific method : Do they do what they do with pure ambition? Or with a true belief in art?. He named them “spiritual warriors”. I dont make movies and I don’t lead a team but I decided to work with people that believe in what they do, and in the project by giving respect to their creation as the highest goal. I try not to work with people who do only business hiding behind some artificial artistic title. I find them insincere.A good example for a “spiritual warrior” is Neil Cohen who does the artwork for my albums and much more than that.

  • Cigarettes

A bad habit but I just can’t see myself working on my music without it… at the moment.

  • Red Axes

Stating the obvious but to important not to mention. They taught me an important lesson in production while working on my first EP “Hello to Mrs Blank” and since then I don’t stop to look up to what they do and learn, not only about production but also about Djing and mostly about how they manage it with so much humility.

  • My Radio Show On Teder.Fm

I started “Club/Hotel Autarkic” almost 2 years ago and it gave me a real drive to find new and old music. Music that influenced me with developing new music styles for myself. Here is an example of my last show with DJ hectik who also responsible together with Asaf Samuel to a lot of music within my collection.
