Headman – The Influence Of Stephan Eicher

Music

Stephan Eicher's influence has inspired plenty of people from across the globe to go out and make music with a timeless quality that'll help it face any onslaught of new fashion trends. One of those who has been particularly influenced by Mr Eicher is the excellent Robi Insinna, aka Headman. He's enjoy the work so much, in fact, that he's put together a release of re-workings of Eicher's sounds. To help further confirm his love for the Swiss singer, Headman picks five tracks of his and tells us why he loves them.

Stephan Eicher's 'Nice' Reworks by Headman/Robi Insinna is out now via Relish.

This just sounds modern to me. It could have been done now! The video shows how artistic the standards had to be back in the day.

  • Grauzone - Eisbaer (Remastered) - Official Video

I had to pick this track. It is a timeless piece of great music. The music is so progressive and at the same time so danceable. I think the German lyrics really fit the cold and dark music. There have been loads of edits of this track which are still played on dance floors.

  • Stephan Eicher-Disco Mania

Very experimental synth track with an amazing melody. The Artwork is fantastic also.

  • Stephan Eicher - Nice

This is the original version that I reworked. As you can hear I haven’t changed loads compared to the original. It was a cover from Kleenex, a Swiss all-girl punk band from then. The music was so avant-garde and could compete with every band in the world by this time. He has a great style in that TV performance. ’50s and synth pop combined, fantastic! A bit of Orange Juice Postcard-era and New Order at the same time.

  • Stephan Eicher "" Combien De Temps "" Maxi 45rpm

As last I picked something from 1987, which is much more pop then his early work. But this version still shows the great combination of melody and electronic dance music. This time the lyrics are in French, another element to his music. Very honest not to choose English in this instance.
