Dj Sneak – Influences

Music

It's a pretty difficult task for someone with such history but the self-proclaimed House Gangster, DJ Sneak has stopped by to impart the records that influenced his sound… and there's some absolute crackers in here!
Many proclaim it but it's fair to say Sneak has helped shape the course of dance music since the early 90s; his early music influencing the likes of Daft Punk, Bassment Jaxx and Armand Van Helden. You Can't Hide From Your Bud… say no more really.

Filtered disco-influenced house and tough, jacking beats Sneak continues to be at the top of his game.

Here's what got him there…

DJ Sneak 'Moody Warehouse Music Vol. 1' is out now on Magnetic Recordings.

Klein & M.B.O. " The M.B.O. Theme " 1983

As I arrived in Chicago in late 1983, this was one of the first tracks I remember hearing on the radio on the weekends, I really did not know what to think of it but later learnt to appreciate its simplicity. Hypnotic was the sound, all House heads still used to bump it.

As I arrived in Chicago in late 1983, this was one of the first tracks I remember hearing on the radio on the weekends, I really did not know what to think of it but later learnt to appreciate its simplicity. Hypnotic was the sound, all House heads still used to bump it.

  • Adonis - No Way Back

No Way Back is one of the tracks I consider to be the purest form of House music. Adonis along with a few very experimental producers of the time helped shape the sound of Chicago House.

  • Koto - Visitors (Best Audio)

I used to trip on this track cause it wasn’t like House at all but yet all
radio DJs at the time used to drop it on the radio, later I understood why,
thanks to Mickey Mixin Oliver > he was awesome on Wbmx 102.7 fm Chicago.

  • Hashim - Al Naafiysh (The Soul)

It’s TIME! This massive track was an instant call out for all breakdancers to hit the floor. I love everything about this track, but mostly the energy to drive ya to the dance floor and bust a boogie.

  • Planet Patrol - Play At Your Own Risk

Produced by Arthur Baker, this was a straight up street hit, all people alike enjoyed
this track, break dancers also got on it and it became a track to drop at peak time too.

  • Klein & Mbo - Dirty Talk (Stars On 25 Remix) Devastating Records 1988

Dirty talk, what a sexual electronic orgasm this track is, it was one of the most playful tracks to drop during the night, hot latin sexual electric beats all up on that ass.

  • Alexander Robotnick "Problemes D'Amour"

In 1983 I was tripping not only on the music I was listening to but the vocals which I didn’t understand, not knowing for a long minute that it was Belgian French. For sure one of the tracks that totally got me into House music, even though it wasn’t House music.

  • All Night Passion - Alisha 1984

This was one of them girl kind of tracks but in here you can hear the inspiration to future Madonna music. All Night Passion will forever be one of them tracks Chicago people love hearing and playing, takes people back, for me I was 14 years old listening to this from all the cars driving by.
