Audio Love 006 – 2014
Love is in the air! It may be Valentines Day, but we've got love to give every week – here are our most recent set of audio amours….
Gari Romalis Here and Now EP (Bosconi)
Tuscan house and techno imprint Bosconi have teamed up with Detroit producer Gari Romalis for their latest release and its most definitely worth a look. Gari has been a key part of the motor city scene for almost 30 years now and his credentials dont need repeating here.
The 4 tracker opens with Kreatorz which is a sample-tastic homage to LFOs seminal Frequencies album hinging around a loop of the awesome bassline of You Have to Understand with a little vocal snip of Were Back. This isnt just lazy thievery though. Romalis works these respectfully taken samples and builds them into a fuzzy, deep but bouncing house track. Next up we have Quincee (a reference to Mr Jones?) which is the funkiest offering of the four. This track has more pace and groove to it, with simple motor city house chords. On the flip weve got E Way which is a full on techno monster. Mid tempo with chugging, distorted percussion and an incessant throb through the whole track. Rounding off the EP is Ucanb which is full on, Detroit house of the highest order. Skuzzy, deep as you like, with smatterings of soulful vocals. (Joe Europe)
Out 3rd March on wax only
A Sagittariun The Jupiter Chronicles (Elastic Dreams)
With a string of releases on his (or her) own label Elastic Dreams including a very special album at the end of last year, A Sagittariun has well and truly entered into my essentials list. In fact the Across the Celestial Sphere EP that came out in October last year is pretty much always in my bag. So its always a matter of some excitement when a new promo from my star sign compadre pops into my inbox.
While sticking to the dreamy analogue aesthetic built up over the last couple of years this EP is by far the most techno yet. We open with Wave Upon Wave which is a fast paced electro workout, which brims with pent up energy. Re-Ignition is a more heads down, subdued techno number, which has a paranoid edge to it. Ascella has a more broken feel to it with its frenetic percussion and repetitive chord pattern. The EP is brought to a close with And the Moon be Still Bright which is the most dreamy of the four but still brims with pace and has a lovely bassline that just takes you on and on. (Joe Europe)
Out 10th March on wax. Digi to follow
Efdemin Decay (LR) (Dial Records)
Deep, atmospheric, contemplative. The new full length from Efdemin on Hamburgs Dial Records was apparently written when he spent 3 months in an artists residency in Kyoto, living next to a river, surrounded by temples, shrines and the ever present blue mountains. This really comes through in the hypnotic sound which pervades the album. This is not a noodly, ambient excursion though. All of the tracks will work well on the dancefloor and he really walks that line between home listening and what works in a club beautifully. A consummate collection and one Im very much looking forward to owning on wax. (Joe Europe)
Out 31st March on wax and digi
No clips yet but keep your ears peeled!
Greeen Linez – Hibiscus Pacific (Moon B Mix)
I'm not massively enamored with the original mix, I kind of like it for it's musicality and the fact it's indebted to the 80s, but it's the wrong end of the eighties for me – the 85/86 vintage with sharp, digital sounds. Moon B sorts it out with his remix, which brings a bit of scuzzy warmth and his trademark drum patterns to proceedings. Worth buying the 12" for this mix alone. (Joe Evans)
Out early March, Pre Order and listen Here.
?Wil's One Liners (ok 2, it's a small page)
Freeform Five – Roisin Murphy Leviathan (Cage & Aviary remix)
Heads down, let's go. The amazing Cage & Aviary turn out a superb dark, brooding rework of Freeform Five's Roisin Murphy vocalised Leviathan. Made for dark, low ceilings and smoke machines.
