8 Tracks – Wolf Music

Music

Beginning life in 2009, Wolf Music was created by two disco and house fanatics (AKA Matt & Stu), who were looking for an outlet for their creative endeavours. Wolf Music’s focus is to push the true house culture and release records that are true to that aesthetic.
Ahead of the Wolf Music showcase at The Nest this weekend, we got label boss Matt to fill us in on the influences behind where the label’s distinct sound originated. SCROLL DOWN TO VIEW ALL 8 SELECTIONS>>

Nu Colours - Desire (masters At Work Dub 3)

I first got into house through the more soulful side of the sound. There weren’t many better at that than the Masters At Work. I bought as many of their records as I could and I still play most of them to this day. They are exactly what their name promises – the best.

  • Nu Colours - Desire (masters At Work Dub 3)

I first got into house through the more soulful side of the sound. There weren’t many better at that than the Masters At Work. I bought as many of their records as I could and I still play most of them to this day. They are exactly what their name promises – the best.

  • Motor City Drum Ensemble - Raw Cuts 3

Have been a fan of MCDE since I first heard him back when he was broken beat as Inverse Cinematics. Then this track happened and cemented that idolisation. This is a perfect house track for me soulful, deep, but still banging all in one.

  • Cesaria Evora - Angola (carl Craig Mix)

Ridiculous build and when heard on a proper system in a club designed for dancers this record has the perfect release too. Could list many Carl Craig records, but this is one that I always come back to.

  • Theo Parrish - Synthetic Flemm

Wouldn’t be a fair list if I didn’t include either Theo, Omar S, or Moodymann, so I have gone for Theo this time round. I could choose loads of his tracks and all the ugly edits too, but I guess it’s this one that I have played most.

  • Alice Smith - Love Endeavor (maurice Fulton Remix)

I had been releasing and buying vinyl for many years but around about 8 years ago I stopped for a while. It was this record that got me back into the buying habit. The only way to own it was to own the wax, and it was too good to miss. Maurice is possibly my favourite artist and certainly my favourite DJ (Theo maybe edges it). He blends house, disco, soul and funk – that is what WOLF is all about, so his influence is clear to see.

  • Atmosfear - Dancing In Outer Space

The record that kicked things off for WOLF. Stu and I are big disco fanatics and we wanted to release records that blended our taste for house and disco. It was this record that I was able to license (thanks Mr Bongo Records) that set us up the WOLF thing to start.

  • Rene & Angela - I Love You More

There are thousands of disco records that I love. They have all played a part in inspiring what we do at WOLF. I have chosen this track as it was one that i was listening to a lot when we launched the label. Also its a ridiculously good record and I hope more people get into it to.

  • Greymatter, Krl - Straight Billin' (medlar Remix)

The main inspiration for what we do is our artists. So here is a track from a recent EP that has all three of the resident producers on the same track.
