8 Tracks: To Pick Fruit To With Kiwi

Music

There is little left to explain when it comes to Kiwi. Since 2013 he has been teadily releasing music for labels such as Days of Being Wild, Deep Shit and most recently Blase Boys Club. He has found commercial success whilst working alongside the likes of Duke Dumont but comes from humble beginnings which started as he cut his teeth in the basements of London clubs as a promoter. We caught up with him to talk eight tracks…

Kenton Slash Demon - Tt

Come the summer, I’m a regular blackberry picker – I use them to make my weekly apple and blackberry crumble. Strange summer vibe to this one, bit of an odd track and not normally my sort of thing but this has really stirred something in me. Perfect for blackberries.

  • Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes

There is an incredible pitched up dance version by Fort Romeau but released as FTRM. It’s not on YouTube or I would have put it in here – I hammer it all the time in warm ups. Picture the scene, a massive blackberry bush, hundreds of blackberries to pick, and the sound of Peter Gabriel coming at you from your iPod. Bliss.

  • Boards Of Canada - Roygbiv

There is just one problem with this track and it’s a big one. It’s about 15 minutes too short. Perfect fruit picker if you only need a handful.

  • Kidnap Kid - Moments (Feat. Leo Stannard)

Stunning production on this new one from Kidnap Kid. I personally much prefer the instrumental version, but alas it’s not online yet (I’m a total vocal phobe). Serious fruity vibe on this one though!

  • Spectral Display - It Takes A Muscle To Fall In Love (Crucial Three Edit)

This one gets an honoury mention. I’ve recently started playing it out again, and it’s been getting an amazing response. A beautiful record to suit many occasions.

  • Sfire - Sfire6

Released on Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic – weirdo electro funk, slamming drums and a super lead hook. This track is so wrong it’s right. Guaranteed to get you pulling apples off the tree at twice the pace.

  • Aphex Twin - Avril 14th

The only record I can comfortably listen to on repeat forever, a track so powerful it made me cry sober when I first heard it. The only desert island disc required. And the perfect track to pick fruit to on repeat.

  • E Myers - Home

Home is delightful synth workout, it’s not left my bag for nine months or so and was my first introduction to this unknown producer. I would have put his newer track Hate here, but it’s not on YouTube yet – record of the year so far for me. It’s just completely epic, and the tenor sax gives me the required excuse to file under ‘fruit pickers’.
