8 Tracks: The World Of Textures With Nova Materia

Music

Inspiration is everywhere, at least that's what it seems for Caroline and Eduardo. The pair have spent a significant period of time travelling over the last twelve or so years, this was largely due to their involvement in the post punk band PANICO. However, all things must end.

More recently the pair have focussed their attention into a new project, NOVA MATERIA. An abstract electronic project which has led them to release on the likes of Kill The DJ. Using an assortment of sounds crafted from odd objects, recycled material, scrap metal tubes, stones rubbed on metal, drums, beat boxes, bass and more… The world is an instrument.

Tonight the pair will play an exclusive show in London at The Waiting Room, a small scale affair to an intimate crowd. We caught up with the duo who guide us through the world of textures in eight…

Follow the pair on Facebook HERE. More details on tonights performance can be found HERE

La Pietra Sonante

This is the work of Pietro Pirellian, an Italian composer. We’re totally in love with his approach to music. He uses stones as percussion. We work in a similar way with NM as we also use stones as percussions.

  • Musique Primitive 9 Avec Os

Percussion with bones. At the beginning there was rhythm. Something we always keep in mind with NM.

  • Nova Materia On/Av

Our last video by two french visual artists Fred Lebain and Grégoire Pedron.

  • Danza Mapuche 1950

Traditional mapuche live percussion and dance in southern Chile. We love the minimalism of the music, just percussion and chant. We picked the video because we are very influnced by trance music, that you find also in electronic music and club music too. The relation between body and drumming.

  • Boredoms @ Primavera Sound 2016

very inspiring gig from Boredoms. Saw them at Villette Sonique last spring. They’ve been doing their thing for years and still find the way to be creative and unique.

  • Constance Demby Tocando El Space Bass

Experimental female music. Constance Demby is a huge artist and music composer. She builds her own instruments as sounding sculptures to create psychedelic music.

  • Dervish Khan

Found this one on FB. A strange shooting of Dervish Khan in Iran in the stone garden. No idea who did the music but it’s brilliant. Love the poetry of the images. Checked on the web and the stone garden does still exist.

  • Woman In The Dunes (Suna No Onna) (1964)

Woman of the Dunes. If you didn’t see this weird Japanese 60’s movie, run for it.
Music is totally strange, it’s from composer Toru Takemitsu.
