8 Tracks Close To Capracara’s Heart

Music

The haggard old lags at Ransom Note Central have luxuriated in the reliably excellent selection of vinyl hound Capracara for many a year. Asking him to give us an 8 Tracks of the good stuff was a no-brainer, and the chap rose to the challenge with aplomb, trip trapping over the hill with a bag stuffed full of the finest dancefloor curveballs. The fact he manages to sneak in a number from Leigh Bowery's superb, much missed Minty collective gets full marks alone… If you'd like to hear this kind of music, played very loud, in a sequential manner, in a dark room, accompanied by rhythmically moving strangers, then you can catch Capracara at Night Sheen at East Bloc on the 30th.

Instrum - Say Yeah (Say Wine Mix)

Eddie Perez – linchpin of underrated NJ production crew, Smack – joins the canon of the mid-90s Strictly Rhythm catalogue under his Instrum guise. Dark garage offset by howling, rave synths.

  • Neana - Bow Kat

On this one, the Night Slugger, Neana, picks up from where Armand Van Helden dropped off – an exhilarating production that folds grime elements and Ha crashes into a weirdo, hard NY style house aesthetic. Love this.

  • Minty - Plastic Bag (Party Crasher's Mix)

Suitably nuts remix of an equally oddball tune from Leigh Bowery’s art-pop band, Minty. Love the hard ‘handbag’ house treatment that Felix and co., as the Party Crashers, did to ‘Plastic Bag’. Play this one all the time.

  • Dj Richard - Nailed To The Floor

Cunty-techno on his White Material label with an industrial edge. Hard house music and claps on-the-one.

  • Jellybean - Twilight Dome Pt 2

Fun discotekno from Glenn Underground under his Jellybean guise. Love the build up based around the ‘Twilight Zone’ melody, then dropping into that Manhattan Transfer loop. Classic.

  • Hallellujia - Danell Dixon

I actually prefer this cut to ‘Dance, Dance’ on the other side. Perfect wild pitch from DJ Pierre protege, Danell Dixon who made loads of other equally good wild pitch tunes.

  • Zone 1 - Feel (Carl E Remix) (Tripoli Trax)

Most probably broken in clubs like Trade or DTPM by one of my DJ heroes, Malcolm Duffy, who would play things like this alongside some of the tougher releases on Chicago’s Relief and get it to all work perfectly.

  • Fyc - "The Flame" (Armand Van Helden's Ghostphunk Mix)

Can’t skip an honourable AVH mention. On his speed garage tip, Van Helden twists this amazing, big room sound from an average FYC tune.
