The Orb’s Alex Paterson announces three new projects for 2021

The Orb founder Alex Paterson has announced three new projects launching throughout 2021.

The first comes in the form of Orbscure Recordings, a new platform for Paterson’s various musical outputs that run alongside his work with The Orb. Launched as a sub-label of Cooking Vinyl, it will offer a space for new material from artists across the world, with Alex heading up the A&R.

The second announcement is an extension of the first; a new collaborative release from Sedibus—the duo of Alex and original Orb member Andy Falconer—which launches the label on the 28th May. Marking the first release the pair have worked on together for 30 years, Andy describes it as “organic in feel and clearly referencing our shared roots, ‘The Heavens’ is an immersive journey of ambient electronica which not only references a source, but the distance travelled from that point of origin to something new.”

To round off the label and release project Alex is releasing a biography via Omnibus Press titled ‘Babble on an’ Ting: Alex Paterson’s Incredible Journey Beyond the Ultraworld with The Orb’. The first full account of his life story, it’s written by close friend and music journalist Kris Needs, and reveals Alex’s traumatic Battersea childhood, boarding school abuse, punk’s liberating impact resulting in roadying for Killing Joke, DJing, first recordings with the KLF’s Jimmy Cauty, The Orb and new record label.
