RIPPED IN GLASGOW EASTER ROUND UP

Music

This week on Ripped In Glasgow we have been mourning the untimely death of Scott Hardkiss. His God Within project produced one of my all-time favourite dance records Raincry, with a breakbeat no less (and one of the best sleeves ever as shown above, currently framed on my wall, fact fans). He turned me onto a load of sun-kissed west coast electronic producers (nicely rounded up on this compilation) who were a breath of fresh air in my musical life circa 1993/94. RIP Scott – you will be sadly missed.

Here’s a mix he did in 1996 (and there’s plenty more Scott goodness on his Soundcloud page):

Gig-wise it was the slightly-debauched launch party for the ace album by RiG v1.0 glam/deathpunk favourites Tragic City Thieves at Nice’n’Sleazy last weekend. Their name references the shithole they hail from, Port Glasgow – not a stop-off which should feature in any touristy trip round Scotland, unless you fancy getting chibbed

This weekend sees the return of Scott Fraser and Timothy J Fairplay for the superb Crimes Of The Future night at the Berkeley Suite, which I’ll unfortunately be missing this time round, but hopefully the double-header of Chas’n’Dave and Optimo with Barnt on Sunday should go some way to making up for it.

RiG favourite Daniel Avery did his latest show on Rinse FM the other night, and you can grab it here (download) or via the Soundcloud page:

Dan also posted a link to his amazing Asphodells remix which I will hopefully pick up on Record Store Day in a couple of weeks.
