Luaka Bop Announces New Compilation From Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda
Luaka Bop are set to release a compilation of songs recorded by Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, the wife of John Coltrane. The release consists of recordings captured at the Sai Anantam Ashram, the spiritual centre established in 1983 by the late musician. It has been compiled in collaboration with the Coltrane children – who helped to find the original tapes from their parents’ archive – and features Alice singing for the first time in her recorded catalogue.
World Spirituality Classics Volume 1: The Ecstatic Music Of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda is available on vinyl and digital on May 5th, with the vinyl edition containing two bonus tracks. It fuses elements of music from global sources, using a vast array of instruments from eastern percussion to synthesisers and even harps.
