Haiti Direct
On January 27th, Strut will be releasing Haiti Direct to celebrate the often overlooked musical legacy of Haiti. Exploring the musical culture of the Caribbean country throughout the 60s and 70s, the album presents the sounds of traditional Meringue rhythm and will be available in LP, CD, and digital formats.
Looking at the musical development across this time period, the album features everything from big band orchestras to mini-jazz in an attempt to capture the swirling, rapidly changing culture on the island. There will be extensive album notes accompanying the release including interviews with some of the musicians and producers that managed to help create and capture the sound of the nation.
Haiti Direct is released on 27th January. Part of the profits will be donated to the charity Partners In Health?.
You can hear a sample of the album below.
