Last night the band premiered four new tracks off their highly anticipated new album Humanz, out on 28th April, 2017. Gorillaz co-founder, Damon Albarn stated that it’s a “party, club record,” with a “weird darkness about it.”

Three national radio stations premiered the new material, BBC Radio 1 revealing ‘Saturnz Barz’ (feat Popcaan) and ‘Andromeda’ (feat D.R.A.M.), whilst Radio X revealed ‘We Got The Power’ (feat Savages’ Jehnny Beth and backing vocals by Noel Gallagher), and Beats 1 Radio aired ‘Ascension’ (feat Vince Staples).

Albarn spoke frankly about the narrative of Humanz. “Simply put, we’re in transition (as humans), we’re turning into something else. The album came from this dark fantasy that came in o my head. Just imagine, the weirdest, most unpredictable thing that changes everything about the world. How will you feel on that night? Would you go and get drunk? Would you stay at home? Just watch TV? Would you talk to people? And, I suppose we were imagining the idea of Donald Trump.” Though, he insists it’s not about Donald Trump per se, but rather that kind of event occurring. “That was our dark fantasy,” he concluded.

Below you can see the fully animated video story that accompanies ‘Saturnz Barz’, as well as the other three premiered tracks from new album, Humanz.

After weeks of spiked interest for their impending return, it’s an abundant offering of music and media from the band. But will it quench fans' thirst for more? Probably not. But maybe seeing them live will? You can try, as they perform the album in full at an impromptu gig tonight. Fiind out more HERE.
