Council Threatens Canavan’s Closure

The future of Peckham's Canavan's has been thrown into doubt as Southwark Council continue investigations into the pool club's late opening hours. The Rye Lane night spot – who are no strangers to a legal battle – has been asked to obtain a late opening licence after some residents have kicked up a fuss over the noise and crowds brought by the club's more recent electronic nights. At minimum, a return to the pool hall's earlier closing times and less banging music policy is wanted by the complainants – who cite "country and western" as their preferred vibe.

Described as "the linchpin of Peckham's community" by one resident, the possibility of club closure has been met with a surge in support from locals. As the home of Bradley Zero's twice-monthly Rhythm Section nights, groups of club-goers and regular pool players will want to see situation sorted out as soon as possible.
