COTTAM SELECTIONS

Music

In the last few years, Cottams slew of vinyl specials have laughed in the face of categorisation. From low-slung afro chuggers to grinding techno disco hybrids and of course THAT Erykah Badu edit, quality of outputs the consistent driver in the Preston natives discography.

Dalstons Hardlife crew score a heavy hitter for their compact basement sessions this Friday with Cottam laying down a headline set for their 1st Birthday Party.

To give you a flavour of the birthday cake, heres the main man with some of the tracks in his bag for Hardlife:

North Lake – Griswold
This is a rather LARGE track, first listen I knew it was good but I didn’t quite grasp how effective it was until probably the 3rd or 4th listen. It really does do the damage on the dancefloor…. A weapon!!!!!!

DJ Steve – Special Cuts #3

Introduced to me by my man Paul Watson this has to be my most played tune at the moment…. LOVE IT!!!!! Don’t know the original, don’t know anything about DJ Steve but man this track is so addictive. First time I played it on a big system was at an open-air do in Tokyo on a really nice big system, with the sun beating down with beautiful scenery. Man, that was one of “those moments.”

Voicless – True Dat
New label from Manchester and a mysterious artist (apparently also from Manchester) who’s debut EP has three tracks of masterful and accomplished deep as you like dancefloor music that is sure to stand the test of time. All three tracks are honestly killers and soon after getting the promo I had to stick two of them on a mix.

Frank Booker – Egbi Mi O

Everyone who knows me knows I’m a bit partial to a bit of Frank Booker and afro vibes so when I heard this record store day release I was sold. Been on repeat since I got it.

Aquarian Foundation – “Mystery Track
Was passed this a few weeks ago and it blew my mind. I love how rough and raw this dirty analogue house/techno for the dancefloor is. Played this particular track once and was hooked, sucked in and spat out, the rest of the EP is a wee bit good as well. The vinyl should be out any time now.
