Following his acclaimed vocal-driven albums Sus Dog and Cave Dog, Chris Clark is set to release his latest work ‘Steep Stims’ on November 7th via Throttle Records, marking a deliberate return to the dancefloor fundamentals that launched his career.

The new album represents a “back-to-basics” approach for Clark, who found himself so immersed in the creative process that he had to physically remove himself from the studio. “I love it when electronic music feels more naturalistic than acoustic music, more potent, that’s the devil’s trick, the promise of electronic music,” Clark explains.

Recorded using primarily an Access Virus synthesizer – discovered at Robin Fox’s Mess studio in Melbourne ‘Steep Stims’ deliberately channels the constraints of early electronic music production, with most tracks capturing “the spirit of making music on old samplers, which don’t have much memory time.”

Despite its rapid creation, the album maintains Clark’s characteristic blend of accessibility and experimentation, from the euphoric tension of opening track ‘Gift and Wound’ to the seven-minute “beatific club majesty” of ‘Janus Modal.’ Standout single ‘Blowtorch Thimble’ showcases the album’s high-energy core with what Clark describes as “hooktasm-hyper-rave-amen-energy.”

Think peak Squarepusher, Aphex IDM madness era banger…

‘Steep Stims’ will be available in digital, gatefold double vinyl, and CD formats, with Clark supporting the release through an extensive tour beginning September 6th in Tilburg and including stops across the UK and Europe. The album serves as both a return to Clark’s electronic roots and a demonstration of how creative constraints can foster innovation, positioning it as a significant addition to his two-decade catalog of boundary-pushing electronic music.
