Zombie Zombie: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

French electro outfit Zombie Zombie returned last year with the excellent Livity, their first proper album since 2012. Produced by house legend I:Cube, it finds their group at the most open-ended and improvisational, and demonstrates that their ability to conjure mood and atmosphere remains unparalleled.

We're very happy to present Zombie Zombie's typically far-reaching and eclectic Ransom Note Mix, which takes in music from the likes of Blawan, Golden Teacher and Maria Rita Stumpf, and opens with Scottish post-rock band Long Fin Killie's collaboration with the late Mark E Smith. Listen and download below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

We are Zombie Zombie, a three piece band now: Etienne Jaumet plays synths, Cosmic Neman plays drums and screams, Dr Schonberg plays percussions and synths, we’re outer space, and we’re probably an elementary particle called gluon.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the internet is acceptable)?

Our music sounds like the waves of dark matter:

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

On a car stereo in the Sahara desert.

What should we be wearing?

Sunglasses

What would be your dream setting to record a mix?

Somewhere in the Bahamas on a tape recorder.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Zombie Zombie’s 'Hippocampe' Triangle Dub remix by Gilb’R.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

We never listen to recorded mixes…

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

John Peel

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

On a double deck tape recorder, still  the same.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First was François de Roubaix's Chapi Chapo. Last was Pandit Pran Nath's The Raga Cycle, Palace Theatre, Paris 1972.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Silver Apples

If it was an animal what would it be?

A Blue Oyster Cult

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

John Cage's 4’33"

Upcoming in the world of Zombie Zombie?

Zombie Zombie’s on tour promoting Livity out on Versatile, and next is the score for Sebastien Marnier's new movie “L’heure de la sortie".

Anything else we need to discuss?

We still wonder if science will find smaller elementary particles than us, gluons?
