The ‘Shine A Light On’ Mix: Tcb

Music

Christian Beißwenger makes up The Citizen's Band. Yes, he is effectively a one man band. And a bloody good one at that.

He has been involved in the Electronic music scene for many years now and has released music on labels including House Is OK, Die Orakel, Tasteful Nudes and Live At Robert Johnson. The latter of these is also a club based in Frankfurt, Germany and it is where this weeks 'Shine A Light On' mix was recorded. Over the course of an hour and a half it sees us taken through soulful grooves and into dynamic house soundscapes. This is a set built for the dancers in the club as Christian explains, read the interview and listen below:

Please introduce yourself…

TCB

Where are you?

Frankfurt, Germany

In constant fights with dust covered synths.

Mix Questions

Where was the mix recorded?

In the booth at Robert Johnson, warming up for a professional DJ.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

At Robert Johnson with all your friends.

What should we be wearing?

The most important thing would be your dancing shoes: Apart from that,
anything goes.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix?

Again, right here at Robert Johnson. Wonderful room, amazing system,  opening up and tearing it all down again later.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Phran – Basical

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Claude Young DJ Kicks. So real.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

I'd rather have had the chance to sit with Lee 'Scratch' Perry doing his thing in '76.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Still the same 2 Technics SL 1200s and the SH-DJ1200 from way back.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Squished between two other Djs I'd say they're both equally important to me. They both represent the front and back cover of the book that I'm reading to you.

What were the first and last records you bought?

Metallica – Ride the Lightning
Roman Flügel – Monday Brain

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Maybe Lobster. It shrieks as you throw it into the boiling water, then you have the armored shell you have to break through and finally, the soft and subtly flavoured bit to chew on.

If it was an animal what would it be?

See above… minus the boiling water bit. They're pretty chilled animals too.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything…

Textile Vynile Serie 08 – Rats

Upcoming in the world of…

M22/3

Anything else we need to discuss?

Sloths
