NICK CRADDOCK – THE RANSOM NOTE MIX

Music

?     ?     ? ?Nick Craddock is one of those rare breeds these days, a DJ who doesn't use his craft as a calling card to promote his latest production – he just DJ's and does it very well. Resident at the Don't Be Afraid parties which have, for the past while, been taking place in the 'well known loft location' and have featured the likes of MGUN , Disco Nihilist, Mr Beatnick , Marco Shuttle and The Kelly Twins. As is trad , we asked Nick a few questions to run with the mix, catch his answers below….

Please tell us how and where the mix was recorded?
At home with 2 x turntables and mixer, just before Xmas, imbued with a sense of hope, joy and goodwill.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
Somewhere in the rain in late January, devoid of any sense of hope, joy or goodwill.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format.
Depends if you wanted it to sound good afterwards. If so, probably at home on the setup I know best. If not, somewhere sunny with a view of the sea.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Id probably say DJ Spiders Debt=Slavery. To be honest, quite a few of the tracks in this mix were freshly bought when I recorded it and this was one I hadnt listened to before. It takes its time but develops really nicely. It wasnt until I listened back to it that I really got into it.

Whats your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Jeff Mills Live at the Liquid Room. Life changer.

Without further ado, here's Nick's mix:

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Maybe a circa 1997 Claude Young. That would be loads of fun.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
Then: 2 x Technics 1210s and a Pioneer DJM500 mixer
Now: The same pair of Technics, a Rane Empath Rotary, and I just bought a CDJ850.

Whats more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
The track you start on.

What were the first and last records you bought?
Little 7 pop records from the shop in the village when I was a kid. The first 12 I bought was Purpose Maker 2. The last one I bought was Iueke Tape 4. Tip!

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
Fred P's beanie.
