Daniel Bortz – THE RaNsom note MIX
For the last 13 years Daniel Bortz has been forging his slow, groove laden tracks for the club world from his base of operations in Augsburg.Bortz has been putting out music for quite some time now, aiming right for its hype- craving g-spot. He got his training as a producer with the Munich label Pastamusik with whom he released his first record in 2007, since then he's been refining his sound between crate digging, house-nostalgia, digitally transferred dance music, sample insanity and a healthy dose of eclecticism.
For The R$N mix he's put together a beaut. He also sat down to answer a few Qs to boot. Read on for the mix lowdown…
Please introduce yourself
Who are you:
Daniel Bortz
Where are you:
Augsburg, Germany
What are you:
DJ / Producer / Musician
Where was the mix recorded?
I recorded it at my Studio in Augsburg.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
Depends. To be in the right mood and having a good soundsystem are good conditions
And, like magic, here's the mix in question….
What should we be wearing:
Dancing shoes and Cowboy Hat
What would be your dream setting to record a mix:
High quality Equipment, cosy Location and crowd between 150 – 500 people open minded for all kinds of music
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Hard decision. That changes quickly sometimes. Can not say what exactly is my fav right now.
Whats your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Same here. Not easy to say. I recorded a lot mixes and Podcasts in the past and I do not listen to them very often when they are done. But i guess my last one for the Groove Magazine is pretty good.
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
My favourite b2b partner is my buddy Sascha Sibler and also my label dude on Pastamusik Anette Party
What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
I think I started mixing with 2 tape decks back in the days. Then i had 2 technics 1210 and a mixer which had funny sounds like helicopters, alarms etc. 🙂
My current setup is 2 CDJ + a mixer. If the club is still able to provide turntables i love to bring some vinyls with me as well.
Whats more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
Both. With the first tracks you check whats up with the crowd. The last ones are important to send the people home in a good mood. The last impression is as important as the first impression.
What were the first and last records you bought?
First: Paula Abdul – Forever Your Girl
Last: Levon Vincent – These Games
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
Like a Banana
If it was an animal what would it be?
Definitely a Cat.
One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything..
Puuuh I have too many records. There are a bunch of non-mixable records.
Upcoming in the world of Daniel Bortz?
a lot of new stuff … Watch out. Touring a lot in 2014 and a lot of new stuff is coming. Watch out!
Anything else we need to discuss.
Don't talk … Let's dance 😉
