The London record label celebrates a fifteen year milestone with a classy mix of house.

Slothboogie is regarded as a bit of an institution, the long running London based record label and party series has been responsible for releasing forward thinking music which has helped push a new wave of artists and dj’s in the pursuit of dancefloor enlightenment.

House music underpins a lot of what Slothboogie is and what they do.

Founded in 2010 as a blog, it quickly evolved in to something far greater and now the collective are widely regarded as selectors in their own right.

SlothBoogie is a vibrant cultural force—championing underground electronic music with a holistic approach that spans curation, release, performance, and community building.

There 15 year anniversary is accompanied by the release of a new compilation which they are celebrating with a launch party in London at Cafe 1001 this evening.

Describe how it feels to have achieved 15 years as a milestone for the record label?

Pretty, pretty good. We’d never in a million years have guessed that we’d still be going all these years later though. We were sat on a bunch of music from the blogging days of SB and Stu at Wolf/Prime said we should just launch a label and without much thought of what that meant we just did it and its been rolling pretty naturally ever since.

Of what are you most proud as a label?

We’re most proud of spotlighting artists from our little corner of the dance music spectrum. We still get such a buzz from putting out music from people we love who trust us with their tracks. We’ve built up such a great little family of label artists and friends over the years who we’re so happy to keep releasing with.

Is there anything you wished you’d done differently or would change?

Not really to be honest… Maybe started a little earlier in the SB blog days?

We’re really careful of what we put out and don’t really chase any trends. There’s no pressure for us to release consistently either because we all have other jobs. So its all done purely for the love of music… Cheesy as that sounds! 🤮

How has the sound of the label evolved and why?

The SB crew members (Pat, Danny & Conor) have got really similar tastes broadly speaking… but then there’s some slight genre / style nuances that bring in some quite interesting variety in the demos we go after. In the grand scheme of things I dont think the sound of the label has really evolved to be miles different from where we started.
We still love Disco tinged House with depth and soul to it… We’re definitely not all about the club bangers but we’ve been known to go there if that makes sense?

Given that there is now more music out there than ever before, what role do you feel a record label like yours plays?

The main thing I think labels are around for these days is to act as a filter and a stamp of quality. As soon as you compromise on the output you lose that trust. I think because we started out as a blog / channel for Disco and House discovery that made it really easy for us to transition into a label and start to release music under the SB name. We’d built up a strong following naturally sharing other labels and artists we loved so that trust/authority was there from the beginning.

What comes next?

More of the same I guess?! There’s a little tour in Australia in the works for November plus the London leg of our 15 Years of SlothBoogie parties at Cafe 1001 on Saturday 16th August. Then we’ve got our 50th release which is just around the corner too… ha it never ends!?
