Physically and creatively Shubostar loves to travel.

The South Korean born DJ and producer has immersed herself in the bustling music scenes of Thailand and Mexico and now she’s setting up camp in Berlin, but through her music it’s outer space that she loves to explore.

Her DJ sets and productions see her navigate celestial electronics, from disco and synth to techno and house, which she terms as cosmic disco. As well as releasing music via Anomalies Anonymes and Ano Ano, on top of remixes for labels like Roam Recordings and Eskimo, she captains uju Records which is a platform for her own music, brought to life by Korean painter Daryung kim’s artwork.

Recorded at her international space station, she sees us into the weekend with a mix primed and ready for a Friday night that showcases her intergalactic tastes…

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

Hi, Hola, Hallo, 안녕! I’m Shubostar. DJ and Producer, Captain of uju Records. Born in South Korea, currently in Mexico city, will move to Berlin.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded in my Mexico City apartment on a very sunny day while drinking a cup of decaf espresso.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

It would be ideal if you are with some booze, cigarettes and good friends.

What should we be wearing?

“Five drops of Chanel No. 5″ and nothing else. Like Marilyn Monroe in bed.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

International Space Station/CDJ2000NXS*2, DJM900NXS2/WAV

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

“Shubostar – Acuario” (It will be released soon on Internasjonal)

These days I play often and it always works on the dancefloor very well.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

My first Mayan Warrior set in Burningman 2019. I still get goosebumps when I listen again because they also recorded the crowd. It brings me back to that moment.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why

Daniele Baldelli, who created the Italian cosmic Sound. I was influenced by him to call my genre “Cosmic Disco”. Who wouldn’t want to play back to back with their legendary influencer?

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I’ve never had any DJ set up at my home. I always use Rekordbox and ableton.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

I thought it was the track I started with but I changed my mind to “both are very important” after my set in Topaz Deluxe Monterrey. I played for four hours and at the end I played my favorite disco track and I got a bunch of DMs asking me for the title of the last track.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First one: Automat album by Romano Musumarra and Claudio Gizzi

Last one: Maxine Dee – Menhungry

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Aguachile – Raw, fresh, acidic, spicy. It’s also one of my favorite dishes in the world.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Water Bear – Independent, unique, surviving in space.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

End of November my European tour after a very long time will begin. Also soon my new EP via my label ‘uju Records’ will come out. It’s two original tracks by me and remixes from Zombies in Miami, Panthera Krause. Stay tuned!
