Shine A Light On… Rampa

Music

With an approach to music that often leads to him straying somewhat dramatically from the tried and tested path, Rampa is "an innovator who isn't afraid to take risks" with music as he "takes you to places which others may fear to tread."
Having made a name for himself via Keinemusik since 2009, he's on the verge of another release as his 'Good Times Roll' EP drops at the end of the month.
He's the curator of this week's Shine A Light On Mix and it's a little gem.  As is tradition, we asked him a few questions to go along with the mix. First get your ears round this;

Please introduce yourself…

Who are you?

Rampa

Where are you?

Berlin

What are you?

Keinemusiker

Where was the mix recorded?

In our Stattbad Studio.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Nokia 6210 speakers.

What should we be wearing?

Civilist t-shirts.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix? (Location/system/format)

I’m very happy with our studio setup … So Berlin Stattbad, dynaudio, CDJ and turntables, TEILE fx on a xone92.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

My new keinemusik track "Good Times" of course 😉 … Or my upcoming saved single "Potty“.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

That’s a hard one to chose … but I think most spins in my life until now got "Q-Bert & D-Styles – Hot Sauce in the dickhole".

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Haha… I had a crazy shitty mixer from a friend's older brother. He definitely fooled me! Anyway I dont remember the name of the "brand“.
Plus cheap turntables. Not as cheap as reloop, but very shitty. I tried to scratch on those and was wondering why I was doing soooo badly 😉

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Ufff it depends on set times I guess… In general the last one but if you catch people with the right one in the beginning you might have a better chance to drop also a better one at the end?? Makes sense no? So I'll say the first one.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First vinyl was Ilsa Gold 🙂 …I grew up in a very small town in the south. It wasn't that easy to go vinyl shopping back then…

Last vinyl was from HNNY.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Dark chocolate and red wine.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Average dog.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Hmmm no idea …if there is one, just make a short fade 😉

Anything else we need to discuss?

Rampa – Good Times Roll EP feat Aquarius Heaven on Keinemusik.
Rampa – Potty on Saved in March.
Rampa – Vandalized on Defected in May.

A remix on Rebirth and a remix for Argy on BPitch Control…

Rampa's new EP 'Good Times Roll' will be out on Keinemusik on the 27th of February.
