Semtek – The RaNsom note Home Listening Mix

Music

Mr Benji Roth, aka Semtek and owner of Don't Be Afraid (the DBA Dubs imprint of which saw the very excellent Adjowa release on this year) is playing pieces of black plastic this NYE at Way Back Here at pretty much our favourite London basement; the Dance Tunnel no less. Ahead of said jockey-a-thon Benji did us a 'Home Listening mix'

We asked him about it too. Here are his ever so eloquent retorts.

"They have to print this exactly as the answers appear below. I'm not making any changes."? was his stipulation.

Please introduce yourself

I'm Benji.

Who are you:
I run Don't Be Afraid and record as Semtek.

Where are you:
At home.

What are you:
That's a stupid question.

Where was the mix recorded?

In my bedroom.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

At home. It's a home listening mix.

What should we be wearing

I'm not answering that.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix:

Location/system/format.

My bedroom, with a pair of decks.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

I don't have favourites. Just records I buy and records I don't buy.

Whats your favourite recorded mix of all time?

See above.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
I don't really do back 2 backs.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Vestax PDX D3s / Numark mixer. I use the same decks and same mixer today that I had 15 years ago.

Whats more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Nope. No way.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First record I ever bought, probably Wax Doctor on Metalheadz. Last was Andy Mac on Idle Hands.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Jesus.

If it was an animal what would it be?

OK I'm off to do my christmas shopping.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything

"You ever dance with the devil by the pale moonlight?"

Upcoming in the world of
