Lorenzo: The ‘Monday Is Okay’ Mix

Music

Today's Monday mix comes courtesy of Italian selector Lorenzo! Seasoned diggers will be familar with his absolute gem of a shop called Lorenzo's Record Shack in Peckham. Regularly to be found manning the airwaves on Balamii and NTS, Lorenzo has also run the Fly By Night Music imprint since 2012, which has released records from the likes of Giorgio Luceri and Jori Hulkkonen.

Ahead of the release of the second volume in his Musica Per L'Immagine series (which focuses on obscure Italian library music), Lorenzo has shared this excellent mix with us. It's the perfect way to begin your week. Listen below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

I’m Lorenzo, another Italian from Bologna living in London. I’m in my music shop in Peckham. I’m a passenger living on the planet earth.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like?

A beautiful mess, try to imagine yourself while listening to the music.

Where was the mix recorded?

Peckham, Lorenzo’s Record Shack.

What should we be wearing?

A spacesuit.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix?

At zero gravity… will be a difficult one though… wearing, of course, a spacesuit.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Probably Alle – 'Den Rette Vej'

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

I think this one is good…

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Ron Hardy the BB!

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The one I start on… don’t ask me why 🙂

What were the first and last records you bought?

God… I think the first one was Sir Mix-A-Lot ‎- 'Mack Daddy', played on a horrible BST turntable, a long time ago. The last one was Yves Simon – 'Raconte-toi'.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Risotto alla marinara.

If it was an animal what would it be?

An eagle!

Upcoming in the world of Lorenzo?

First is the second volume of lost Italian library music in the Musica Per L'Immagine series compiled by myself, then a EP from the 291out band… and a few other bits…

Anything else we need to discuss?

Big up to The Ransom Note family!
