Evvol – The ‘Wednesday Alternative’ Ransom Note Mix

Music

The bittersweet melancholia of Evvol is haunting, it echoes up from below a nocturnal, lake-long shadow, creaking, bleeping, twittering, twisting, reverberating, modulating; breathless and optimistic in it's sadness. Recent record 'Eternalism' is a collection of brilliant songs, varied in tone and intent, textured and far-reaching in it's ideas and energy. We caught up with them to ask some of our similarly deep and meaningful questions to find out their thoughts on exercise, voles and evil. Their next release is a remix EP on the ever impressive !K7 Records, around the same time as their second UK show in Hoxton at the end of November.

For now, let's get the Wednesday Alternative R$N mix on… then let's get some questions to em shall we?

Biggest influences include Bjork, Bowie, Frank Ocean, Vangelis, currently loving the new Kendrick Lamar album. What we want to achieve with our music is writing good songs that we love in the hope that others love them too.

If you were trapped on a desert island with one other person, who would you choose? How long would it be before you eat them?

Not including each other? We would probs say Cat Power, we would probably give her at least 6 months

JC: Gym, treadmill, maybe parkour
JD: Yoga. Namaste…

If you could travel in time…where in time would you go? Why?

JC: I'd like to go back to 1905, Vienna, and take out Hitler
JD: Think id like to hang out with Buddha under the bodhi tree

How does your brain work when making music? How does it work when you aren't?

When you make music your brain is having a lol, when you're not, it's thinking too much

JC: Sub ohm vaping
JD: Our little dog Rooney Mara

What's your answer to everything?

JC: "Yeah grand, thats grand"

JD: "Whatevs"

What's the most evil thing you've ever done?

JC: When I was an unruly kid our family dog followed me to the bus stop and instead of bringing him home i jumped on the bus to meet my mates and our dog ran away and never came home. I hate myself.
JD: I stole a girls pen in school and made out that it was mine in the first place and ended up getting her suspended cos they believed me not her – I'm ashamed of my mean girl past

Do you like voles? What's your most/least favourite thing about voles?

As in the rodents? Whats not to like! small and cuddly, least favourite thing is that they are probably too small

Kelela – we can't get enough of her!

What's your favourite recorded mix of all time?

We love the Danish DJ Djuna Barnes' winter mixes

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Probably some one like Steffi, the lolz would be endless
