D’Marc Cantu – The Ransom Note Live @ 130bpm Mix

Music

D'Marc Cantu has been orbiting our ears for a while now.

"Slow building, spacey jackin’ techno tracks with some nice squelchy acid lines. Fans of Basic Soul Unit would approve."

We think he's a lot more than that but it's good jumping off point to get yourself started in the world of Mr D'Cantu.

It was with some excitement then, when he agreed to lay down his Ransom Note mix for us:

"I want to make sure if it's cool that its going to be a live set of mine? All original and what not, just not a lot of released tracks in there." We weren't really going to argue with that.

So here it is in all it's 130BPM glory. Go let your ears enjoy…

Who are you:

Where are you:

What are you:

I'm D’marc Cantu, I've been producing dance music in various forms for over a decade now. I reside in Ann Arbor MI, which as anyone familiar with this area should know has a rich musical history, from Iggy pop to Andrew WK and many more.

Where was the mix recorded? What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

This mix is an evolution of my live sets, I'm known for producing one off live sets filled with untitled, often never to be released tracks.

This mix is pretty intense, if you're listening to this at home you should start with a healthy dose of energy drinks because going into this cold may be too much. However if you want a preview of what it’s like to hear me live this is it.

It was recorded in my home studio.

What should we be wearing

Your dancing shoes and some sweat pants. Maybe a towel if you get hot. Also drink plenty of water.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Oh that’s easy, mixed up in the Hague Vol 1. It’s a game changer

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Don’t DJ just play live but when I did attempt to go down that road I bought a VCI-300. Waste of money. If youre going to DJ do it right, don’t slack.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Oh the start of the mix, it’s the introduction, the nice to meet you.

Since I play live its extra important to focus on the start, if the whole sets bad who cares if the last track is good or not.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Redbull and vodka 4 hours after drinking one and you’ve had a few pints since then. Upon releasing pressure you get another taste of the monster that was the redbull and vodka. You then question yourself, “Why am I here? What am I doing?” at which point in time you realize you’re dancing and you can’t find your mates.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A platypus, is it a duck? Is it a beaver? It lays eggs? What?! And it can kill you with a stinger?

Upcoming in the world of…

Anything else we need to discuss.

Come check out this live set for yourself, I will be playing at Fabric in London on Sept 12th in Room 2. I promise it will be more intense than this mix or the same I’m not sure yet.

D'Marc Cantu plays fabric next Friday 12th September.

The next D'Marc Cantu release will be surfacing on Richard Fearless' Drone imprint shortly.
