Decius: The ‘Wednesday Alternative’ Mix

Music

What and who the hell are Decius you ask? Well, we’ll leave it up to them to introduce themselves…

‘Decius is when members of Trashmouth Records, Fat White Family & Paranoid London find themselves climbing out of a “hole” together at a disco after hours.’

This magical (and inebriated) coming together of minds has resulted in a ton of edits and re-works which will form a series of EPs followed by two artist albums. We’ve been lucky enough to get dibs on the first series – Decius Edits Vol I – which you can hear in full on today’s ‘Wednesday Alternative’ mix…

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

We are Decius. We are here for you and we are whatever you need us to be

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Sounds like the sound of sweet regret

Where was the mix recorded?

The Lockdown kitchenette, New Malden

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Hot tub or sauna depending on the day of the week

What should we be wearing?

Nothing but tight jawed smiles

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Back at our hotel room after a gig … never happens though as the orgy is always too intensssssssssse.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Decius Edit of COTA City Salsa by Post Industrial Noise

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

An unidentified mix by Daniele Baldeli circa 1990ish

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Decius is basically us trying to channel the Music Box in Chicago, so it would have to be Ron Hardy. That or with Colin Faver in the Heaven booth circa 1987-8.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Then: Soundlab rubber band decks and a 2 channel Made2Fade mixer  Now: MPC2000, Allen & Heath Xone:32, A temperamental Technics 1210, one Pioneer CDJ-500, Pioneer XDJ RX and various old guitar pedals.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The taste that’s left in your mouth is all that counts…

What were the first and last records you bought?

First: Kings of The Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants.

Last: Alternative Funk – La Folie Distinguée

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Cheap caviar

If it was an animal what would it be?

A teenage Jaguar

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

There is no record we can’t mix… mixing is like fucking. Mix whatever you want and, well, you can guess the rest

Upcoming in the world of Decius…

A relentless discharge of sexually transmitted records

Anything else we need to discuss?

We thought we would wait until the worst possible moment in modern human history to launch Decius… Now is that time. This mix – Decius Edits Vol I, is the first in a series, consisting entirely of unreleased Decius edits and re-works. These will be followed by a series of EPs and two artist albums.
