Brawther: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Next up in our longstanding mix series we are delighted to showcase a man who could be described as a pioneer of house music. Brawther has been steadily casting a spell upon the genre for many years now, his music having been championed by the likes of Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Chez Damier and Jeremy Underground. He has released music on a far reaching number of record labels including the likes of Cabinet Records, Secretsundaze, My Love Is Underground, Balance and Jazzy Couscous. He has built a firm following amidst house and techno communities and has toured with relentless pace in recent years with a reputable string of appearances worldwide.

This set was recorded at a special location in Berlin and was captured live from the booth at Club der Visionaere. For those of you who have been previously then you will note the nature of the sound, setting and place in the utmost detail. For those who have not, close your eyes and imagine.

Listen and read the interview below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you what does your music sound like?

Brawther, Lisbon, French, underground dance music

Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

Live at Club Der Visonaere in Berlin for Thomas Melchior's "No Disco Future" night.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

A club with an open mind, mixed and faithful crowd and amazing sound.

What should we be wearing?

Anything they feel like!

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Maybe somewhere like Stereo in Montreal it's the best sound i'v ever heard in a club.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

My favourite track changes all the time so i couldn't pick one that easily…

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Of mine? This one is up there as it was all done live and the party was ace! From another artist this mix courtesy of Homero G is a personal favourite.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Simon DK from DiY

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

2 x Technics and an Ecler mixer. Iv changed the Ecler for an old Vestax PMC 250 rotary.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The track you end on.

What were the first and last records you bought?

I think my first record was a Schmoov 12" on DiY Discs and my last one is by Gene On Earth, a very special producer.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A juicy one

If it was an animal what would it be?

A stompy one

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Does Aphex Twin count?

Upcoming in your world?

A second child and my forthcoming release on Cabinet Records.

Anything else we need to discuss?

In this day in age with so many small clubs being forced to close I'm sending out props to the promoters and clubs that are still doing their thing for the music not margins against the odds. Love to everyone dedicated to the dancefloor and keeping the community vibes alive!
