Banoffee Pies: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Since 2014 Banoffee pies have been delivering tasteful records which have remained consistent and enigmatic. Ruf Dug, Mr Mendel, MMT, Wendel Sield, Fyi Chris, Florist and many more have all featured. Upon a dig through their back catalogue it is notable that they have become tastemakers, often ahead of trends and ready to inspire. We caught up with them ahead of Farmfestival and as they're about to release two compilations which can be found HERE

Read and listen to the mix below:

Where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded in Elliots front room aka Banoffee HQ – at the heart of Stokes Croft in Bristol.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Noel Edmonds home, whereever it is he does his tax evading

What should we be wearing?

Something ill fitting but classy none the less.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location, system, format?

Somewhere thats like a jungle sometimes and makes us wonder how we keep from going under on a big fat rig, 7 turntables, and a 1 channel mixer.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

It really depends what mood we’re in

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Tough questions. There are so many across lots of genres we love.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Probably George Oscar Winstanley – a local legend in the Bristol scene.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Excluding a few ropey mixers along the way our set up has never been to shabby, 1210's from the get go. We have everything fully sussed now with breeze blocks to raise up the decks pon a 2×4 Expedit + a 3rd turntable in case things hot and spicy, a lamp, and some an oil projector to keep the mood. Technics and Ikea till we die.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

It’s pretty important to keep all parts of your mix captivating in one way or another – hopefully you enjoy all the records you play. The first track is more understated but often sets the tone of the mix, where as the last track can often be quite disconnected from the rest of the mix but is often very memorable.

What were the first and last records you bought?

I believe the first record I bought was Sagat – Love Stuff a long while ago! The most recent was LB Aka LABAT – Disques Solaires wicked new LP.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A flan.

If it was an animal what would it be?

An Aardvark.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything…

Cats the Musical – Act 3

Upcoming in the world of…

Banoffee Pie – more projects, more music, more bookings,  more dancing

Anything else we need to discuss.

I believe we have covered everything just keep your eyes peeled – business as usual at BPR – next couple of shows – Glastonbury (Saturday – Babylon Rising, Sunday – The Temple) Love International Festival Croatia label showcase (Friday). More records landing in September.
