Autarkic: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Autarkic is the artist name of Tel Aviv producer/DJ Nadav Spiegel. Following a number of EPs for the likes of Turbo and Golf Channel Recordings, last year saw the release of his acclaimed debut album I Love You, Go Away on Moscoman's Disco Halal label.

Spiegel actually did an amazing tripped-out synthwave mix for us just last year, but we had to have him back as soon as we could, and this impressive showing is much more of a peak-time affair. Strap yourselves in, things are about to get intense… Listen below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

I'm Nadav Spiegel aka Autarkic, a musician from Tel Aviv. I'm mainly a live artist but also a DJ. I released my debut album I Love You, Go Away last year after a number of EPs in the year before.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Crossing Tel Aviv on a bicycle from east to west all the way to the beach, using our infamous bike lanes and escaping the notorious TLV drivers.

What should we be wearing?

It's hard not to refer to sex so I'll go for… use deodorant.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Alek Lee Ft. Ryskinder at 6 minutes into the mix.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Well to be honest I'm not listening to DJ mixes a lot but I really loved the "Cosmo Vitelli episode" on Beats In Space, and especially the interview he gave at the end.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Never had one.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

For me it's the last one always.

What were the first and last records you bought?

The first was a cassette of a band called Noar Shulayim when I was 7. The last one was a Greek folk record by Dionysis Savvopoulos which I bought in Athens recently.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A sleazy ham & cheese toast.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A rat.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

I'm having difficulties with mixing 'Historical Watch' by Maaz but I love it so much and willing to have some stutter in the room.

Upcoming in the world of Autarkic?

2018 gonna bring some new fresh music, some of it's in the mix you are listening to now.

Anything else we need to discuss?

"Wanna talk about the conflict?"
