Behzad and Amarou Talk

Music

French duo and rising stars Behzad and Amarou have become a rather essential value on the French techno scene. Their first release on Concrete Music set the tone for future productions…  Work Them Records are taking over the site this week… which you may have noticed.

Spencer's on the rampage again asking them a plethora of questions… First up let's get this on:

Then let's get in to it…

BONJOUR BEHZAD & AMAROU. YOU ARE NOW RESIDENT AT THE GREAT CONCRETE PARTY IN PARIS SINCE 2 YEARS. CAN YOYOU TELL US HOW THE CONNECTION WAS MADE BETWEEN YOU AND CONCRETE ?

When we met 5 years ago we had the same interests in music but in Paris the nightlife was not that active and our music was not really the right vibe… so we moved to Hamburg and played as a resident to the LikeBirdz party. Then our very close friend Mayashiba listened to our track and really liked it. Then it came to the ears of Mr Spencer Parker, who didn't stop supporting us for the past 2 years in his charts, podcast etc. At the same time Brice Coudert was building his Concrete project and asked us if we wanted to be a part of the family. We accepted without any hesitation. And now we can't stop being thankful towards these 3 guardian angels who believed in us since the beginning.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MOMENT IN CONCRETE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT ?

Each Concrete we played was absolutely amazing and vibrating. The ones we did with Laurent Garnier , Spencer Parker and Molly are still in our memories because there was an incredible vibe on the boat… the crowd were shouting to everytrack!

To be honest, each moment we live at Concrete is our favorite Moment

WE HEAR THAT YOU ARE JUST MOVING TO A NEW STUDIO. What is YOUR FAVOURITE MACHINE THAT's forms PART OF YOUR CURRENT SET UP – THE ONE YOU JUST COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT…?

We think that nothing can beat the Roland TR-909 and the TR-808. We also appreciate the TR-707 for the synth we just felt in love with the Juno 60 and also the casio CZ-5000. One day we'd like to be able to afford a Minimoog voyager but we need to work a lil more for that! 🙂

We also think that it's really difficult to work without a good mixer table and some external effects.

Most of them are going to be in our set up very soon, so the "new studio" is actually under construction.

YOU'RE KNOWN FOR YOUR GREAT SELECTIONS WHEN PLAYING, WHO IN YOUR OPINION IS REALLY IMPRESSING YOU IN PRODUCTION AT THE MOMENT

Greg Beato is the revelation for us , each track he made is a masterpiece to us , we also love the work of Antigone , Zadig, Florian Kupfer , Alien Rain, Vril, Stanislas Tolkachev and recently Point Break … and many many others

ALSO PLEASE NAME YOUR TOP 3 RECORD STORES IN PARIS AND WHY YOU LOVE THEM

Techno Import

It's the first record shop we discovered. It has plenty of different styles of music and also you can find some nice oldies for a very cheap price. Mazen ( the owner ) is very nice with his customers and was very kind to us. Now we work for him and its just the beginning of a long, love story.

Synchrophone

People working for Synchrophone are excellent DJs like Blaise , Didier Allyne or John Sill, so you can guess the amazing selection they have!

Music that you can find over there is close to what you listen to in the biggest club like Berghain / Panorama Bar .

They also run a very good label and sub-labels.

La Source / DDD

It's the last one we discovered. It's the smallest but Xavier does an amazing job because it's full of excellent classics ( Dancemania , Djax up Beats , Trax etc… ) and also you can discover excellent labels that you can t find in the two previous shops

He collaborates with Jacques from Smallville record as well and they are also excellent Djs !!!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE RESIDENT OF A CLUB? HOW DO YOU THINK RESIDENCIES HAVE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS AND DO YOU THINK THE IMPORTANCE OF ONE IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY MORE IMPORTANT IN THE INTERNET AGE OF TEMPORARY KNOWLEDGE AND FLEETING FACEBOOK POSTS?

It means being a part of a family and a project and it concerns everybody ( organisers , staff , crowd ) . Everywhere we go , we "smell" Concrete and we're very happy of that. It's like our second home ( or first boat ). There is more residencies than before and it's good because they keep growing up thanks to social networks and the internet.  People can easily contact the label directors , event organisers or even the artists themselves to send their work.  The music we play is not that much on radio or on tv so ye,s Internet has its part of responsibility for that Increase.
