Art & Culture

This is not your average childrens book.

Narrated by J Dilla's mother, Maureen 'Ma Dukes' Yancey-Smith, The Life Story of J Dilla tells the tale of a young Dilla's formative years in Detroit. The story book, targeted at kids, features interactive audio content and beautiful illustrations by talented artist Tokio Aoyama. In an interview on 27th September, Ma Dukes said her son's story is "an example of striving to be all you can be, and working hard to achieve one's goals in life."

The printed version of the book is available for $14.99, with the deluxe audio USB version available for $34.99. All proceeds go to the J Dilla Foundation – which works to cure people suffering with lupus (the illness from which Dilla suffered), while promoting inner city creative programmes for young people.
