Ransom Stats #12

Commentary

They say the best things come in small packages, so whilst I work on possibly the most in depth Ransom Stats to date – I promise it’ll be worth the wait – enjoy this bite sized stats teaser.

In April a team of geodata experts at University College London teamed up to map out the most popular surnames in the UK. They mapped both distribution of names from the electoral role and in a thoroughly modern move, from twitter. Of electoral roll names unsurprisingly Smith comes top of the rankings in England with Jones the Welsh favourite and Campbell and Robertson the lead in Scotland.
Switch to Twitter and the spread becomes significantly wider.
